Boiler servicing

Boiler servicing and routine maintenance

Routine boiler servicing for homes and small businesses across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire, completed by Gas Safe registered engineers where gas work is involved. A service helps check the boiler’s condition, operation and safety at the time of the visit.

What a service is for

Routine checks on the boiler and its operation

A boiler service is preventative maintenance and a safety check, not a guarantee that no future fault will occur. The engineer checks the appliance and records any issues that need attention.

Visual condition

Checking the appliance and accessible components for obvious signs of deterioration or concern.

Operation

Checking how the boiler starts, runs and responds during the service.

Safety checks

Carrying out the safety checks relevant to the boiler and installation.

Combustion where required

Using the appropriate checks and readings where the appliance or service procedure requires them.

Controls and settings

Checking relevant controls and operating settings as part of the service.

Advice on findings

Explaining defects, maintenance concerns or repair recommendations found during the visit.

How we approach it

Keep servicing separate from repair work

If the boiler is working normally, the visit remains a service. If a fault is discovered, we will explain it rather than automatically turning the visit into open-ended repair work.

If the boiler is already showing a fault code, losing pressure or failing to heat properly, tell us when booking because a repair/fault-finding appointment may be more appropriate than a routine service.

Useful to know

When to book a repair instead of a service

A service is not designed to diagnose every active breakdown. If the boiler is already failing, tell us the symptoms so the right type of appointment can be arranged.

Boiler will not start

An active breakdown normally needs fault diagnosis rather than routine servicing.

Repeated pressure loss

Frequent pressure loss usually needs investigation into the boiler or wider heating system.

No heating or hot water

A working fault should be described when booking so time can be allowed for diagnosis.

Gas smell

Do not wait for a service. Turn off the gas if safe, ventilate, avoid ignition sources and contact the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

Questions

Boiler servicing FAQs

How often should a boiler be serviced?

Most manufacturers and insurers expect regular servicing, commonly once a year. Check the requirements for your specific boiler and warranty.

Will a service fix an existing boiler fault?

Not automatically. A service is routine maintenance; an active fault may require separate diagnosis and repair.

Can you service a boiler that is under warranty?

Usually, but the service should follow the manufacturer’s requirements and any warranty conditions. Keep the service record where required.

What happens if you find a fault during the service?

We’ll explain the issue and the recommended next step. Additional repair work is kept separate unless you approve it.
