Toilet repairs and flush fault finding
Help with toilets that will not flush properly, keep running, leak, overflow or refill incorrectly across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire. We’ll identify the faulty part and explain the repair before replacing components.
Toilet problems we can investigate
Most toilet faults come from the cistern, flush mechanism, inlet valve or the connections around the pan. The exact part matters because many modern and older systems use different components.
Toilet will not flush
Broken or failed flush valves, siphons, buttons, handles and operating mechanisms.
Constantly running water
Water passing into the pan because the inlet or flush valve is not shutting correctly.
Slow or noisy refill
Inlet valve faults, restricted flow or components that no longer refill the cistern properly.
Overflowing cistern
Water rising too high because the inlet valve is not controlling the level correctly.
Leaks around the cistern
Leaks from inlet connections, flush seals, close-coupling kits or external joints.
Loose or moving toilet
Movement around the pan or cistern that needs checking before it damages seals or connections.
Identify the failed part before replacing it
A toilet that looks simple from the outside can contain a range of different flush and inlet mechanisms. We inspect the actual arrangement first so the correct repair parts are used.
Where an obsolete or poor-quality mechanism is no longer worth repairing, we can explain suitable replacement options.
When toilet repairs can involve extra work
Access, old valves and the condition of the toilet can affect a repair. If another issue becomes obvious while the cistern is opened or isolated, we’ll explain it rather than quietly adding work.
Failed isolation valve
A seized or leaking service valve may need replacement before the toilet can be worked on safely.
Obsolete internals
Older flush parts may no longer be available, making a modern replacement mechanism the sensible option.
Close-coupled seals
Leaks between the cistern and pan can require dismantling and replacement seals or fixings.
Damaged sanitaryware
Cracked ceramic cannot normally be repaired as a plumbing component and may require toilet replacement.

Toilet repair FAQs
Why does my toilet keep running after it has flushed?
The flush valve may not be sealing properly, or the inlet valve may be overfilling the cistern. We can check which part is actually causing it.
Can you repair an old-style lever toilet?
Usually, yes, depending on the condition of the cistern and availability of suitable parts. Sometimes a replacement siphon or valve is the better repair.
Why is the toilet taking a long time to refill?
The inlet valve may be restricted, worn or incorrectly adjusted. Water pressure and the service valve can also affect refill speed.
Can you stop a leak between the cistern and pan?
Often. Close-coupled toilets use seals and fixings between the cistern and pan; these can deteriorate and may need replacing.
