Shower repairs and replacement

Plumbing help for leaking, faulty or worn shower fittings, valves and exposed shower pipework across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire. We can assess repair options and replace suitable shower fittings where the plumbing allows.

Common shower problems

Shower faults we can help with

A shower problem can come from the valve, pipework, seals, wastes or the water supply. Electrical or manufacturer-specific faults may need a different specialist, so the first step is working out what part of the system is actually failing.

Leaking shower valves

Leaks from exposed mixer valves, bar showers, connections and accessible pipework.

Poor temperature control

Mixer or thermostatic shower faults where temperature is unstable or difficult to regulate.

Low or uneven flow

Plumbing-side restrictions, supply problems or shower components affecting flow.

Dripping shower heads

Water continuing to pass after the shower is turned off, often pointing to a valve or cartridge fault.

Shower replacement

Replacing suitable exposed shower fittings when repair is not economical or parts are obsolete.

Pipework alterations

Small plumbing alterations where a replacement shower has different connection positions or requirements.

How we approach it

Separate the plumbing fault from the shower unit fault

Before replacing a shower, it is important to know whether the problem is the valve itself, the supply, the pipework or another part of the installation. That avoids fitting a new unit without fixing the underlying issue.

Where a replacement is not a direct swap, we’ll explain any likely pipework, tile or access implications before proceeding.

Useful to know

Why shower replacement is not always a direct swap

Even when two showers look similar, the pipe centres, fixing positions, water requirements and wall access can differ. That is why a replacement should be checked against the existing installation first.

Pipe centres

Replacement valves may need the hot and cold supplies in different positions.

Wall access

Concealed pipework may require tile or wall access if connections need moving.

Water system compatibility

The shower must suit the property’s hot- and cold-water arrangement and available pressure.

Obsolete models

Older showers may have limited spares, making a modern replacement more practical than repeated repairs.

Questions

Shower repair FAQs

Can you replace an old shower with any new model?

Not always. Pipe positions, water system type, pressure and fixing arrangements all need to be compatible. We can check this before recommending a replacement.

Do shower repairs sometimes require tiles to be removed?

Yes, if the fault or required pipework is concealed behind the finished wall. We’ll explain that before opening the area wherever possible.

Can you repair a thermostatic shower that will not hold temperature?

Often the fault can be investigated, but whether it is repairable depends on the valve, cartridge and availability of parts.

Do you deal with electrical shower faults?

We can assess plumbing-related issues and connections. Electrical faults within an electric shower may require an appropriately qualified electrical repair or replacement route.
