Heat Pump Radiator Upgrades

Radiator assessment and upgrades for homes moving to lower-temperature heating, using room heat demand and emitter output rather than simply fitting larger radiators everywhere.

What we can help with

Radiator upgrades for heat pumps

Output checks

Compare each room's heat demand with the radiator output available at the intended flow and return temperatures.

Radiator resizing

Select larger or higher-output radiators where the existing emitter cannot meet the design load.

Type changes

Consider different panel/convector arrangements where more output is needed within a limited wall space.

Valve work

TRV and lockshield replacement or adjustment where appropriate as part of the radiator work.

Pipework considerations

Check whether accessible pipework and connections are suitable for the revised radiator arrangement.

System balancing

Balance the heating system so upgraded emitters receive the intended flow.

How we approach it

Upgrade only the emitters that need it

Radiator upgrades should be based on calculated room demand and output at the proposed low-temperature conditions. Replacing every radiator without checking the numbers can add unnecessary cost and still miss weak rooms.

Renewables standard: Work is planned and undertaken in line with MCS guidance and applicable standards where relevant. This does not state or imply MCS certification or accreditation.

Local coverage

Service across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire

LDM Group UK covers Farnborough, Frimley, Camberley, Aldershot, Fleet, Farnham and surrounding areas. Availability depends on the type and location of the job.

Questions

Heat Pump Radiator Upgrades FAQs

Why do heat pumps often need larger radiators?

Lower water temperatures mean each radiator emits less heat, so some rooms need a larger emitter to deliver the same room output.

Can I keep some of my existing radiators?

Yes, if their calculated output is adequate at the new system temperatures.

Do radiator upgrades help a boiler system too?

Larger emitters can also help some boiler systems run at lower flow temperatures, depending on the wider design.
