Radiator repairs, valves and replacement
Help with cold, leaking or inefficient radiators, faulty TRVs and lockshield valves, plus radiator replacement across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire. We can assess whether the problem is the radiator itself or the wider heating system.
Radiator faults we can help with
A radiator that does not heat properly may have a local valve or air issue, or it may be showing a wider balancing, circulation or sludge problem. We check the pattern before deciding what to change.
Cold radiators
Radiators that stay completely cold while the rest of the system heats.
Cold spots
Radiators cold at the top, bottom or in sections, indicating air or circulation issues.
Leaking radiators
Leaks from valves, tails, vents, plugs or the radiator body.
TRV faults
Thermostatic radiator valves that are stuck, leaking or no longer controlling the radiator correctly.
Lockshield valve faults
Leaking, seized or damaged balancing valves that need replacement.
Radiator replacement
Changing damaged, undersized or unwanted radiators where pipework and wall conditions allow.
Work out whether the fault is local or system-wide
One cold radiator often has a local cause. Several cold or slow radiators can point to a wider system condition. That distinction matters before parts are changed.
When valves are disturbed, older packing glands, tails or valve bodies can sometimes begin leaking; we will explain additional replacement if that becomes necessary.
What matters when replacing a radiator
A replacement should fit the space and provide suitable heat output, but pipe centres, wall condition and valve layout also affect the job.
Heat output
The new radiator should be appropriate for the room rather than chosen only by width and height.
Pipe centres
Different radiator types and sizes may require pipework alterations.
Wall condition
Heavier or larger radiators need secure suitable fixings and a sound wall.
Valve condition
Existing TRVs and lockshields may be worth replacing if they are worn, seized or likely to leak when disturbed.

Radiator FAQs
Why is my radiator cold at the bottom?
Cold lower sections can indicate sludge or restricted circulation, particularly if the pattern appears on several radiators.
Can you replace just the radiator valves?
Yes. TRVs and lockshield valves can often be replaced without changing the radiator, provided the rest of the fitting is in suitable condition.
Can a leaking radiator be repaired?
Leaks from valves or connections may be repairable. If the radiator body itself is corroded or leaking, replacement is usually the sensible option.
Can you fit a different-size radiator?
Often, but changing dimensions may require pipework alterations and the heat output should still suit the room.
Need plumbing, heating, gas or renewables help?
Tell us what you need help with and we’ll get back to you after reviewing the details. For urgent plumbing or heating problems, calling is usually the fastest option.

Need help with a radiator problem?
Send a photo of the radiator, valves and the problem area. If you are considering replacement, include the approximate radiator width and height if known.
